Head coach Jolene Nagel Named ACC Coach of the Year

Nov. 14, 2001

Duke head volleyball coach Jolene Nagel was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Coach of the Year and two Blue Devil players were named to the All-ACC first team by the league's nine head coaches Wednesday evening. Senior Ashley Harris and junior Josie Weymann earned first team All-ACC honors, while sophomore Krista Dill was named to the second team.

Nagel was named ACC Coach of the Year for the first time after guiding the Blue Devils to a 21-3 record and the ACC regular season title. She holds a 259-166 career record and a mark of 55-30 in her third season at the helm of the Blue Devils. With 55 victories at Duke, Nagel is already third on the all-time wins list by a Blue Devil coach. Nagel guided Duke to its first regular season ACC title in seven years and its second consecutive 20-win season this year.

Harris and Weymann became the first Blue Devils to be named to the All-ACC first team since Sarah Peifer was so honored in 1997 and the first Duke teammates to be named to the first team since 1994. Harris, an outside hitter from Dallas, Texas, leads Duke with 304 kills. She is second on the team with 27 service aces and 235 digs. A defensive specialist from Darien, Conn., Weymann has 236 digs and 20 service aces. This is the first all-conference recognition for both players. Duke and North Carolina led all schools with two players each on the first team.

A middle blocker from Newport Beach, Calif., Dill earned second team honors after being named to the All-Freshman team last season. Dill leads the Blue Devils with a .312 hitting percentage and 116 blocks. She is third on the team with 227 kills.

Duke begins competition in the ACC Tournament on Friday when it plays the winner of Thursday night's match between No. 8 seed Virginia and No. 9 seed N.C. State in Tallahassee, Fla.
