Tar Heels' Christine Vaughen Named ACC Volleyball Player of the Week
 

 
 
 

 
North Carolina sophomore Christine Vaughen led the Tar Heels to a 3-0 week, with wins over NC State, Boston College, and Maryland.

GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina's Christine Vaughen, a sophomore from Simi Valley, Calif., was chosen today as the Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Player of the Week after turning in stellar performances in three Tar Heel victories last week.

In the Heels' 3-0 win against NC State last Tuesday, Vaughen posted eight kills on just 18 attempts, with only one error. Against Boston College on Friday night, she was even better, slamming 11 kills in 16 attempts for a hitting percentage of .562. In the week's final game versus Maryland, she hit nearly .600 percent, recording 13 kills and zero errors in 22 attempts as North Carolina again swept its opponent. For the week, Vaughen averaged 3.56 kills per game with an overall hitting percentage of .518. In 56 attempts, she committed just three errors, boosting her season hitting percentage to .352 as the Tar Heels jumped two spots in league standings.

This coming week, Vaughen and the Tar Heels will have another opportunity to improve their conference record as they host Virginia and Virginia Tech in Chapel Hill, N.C. The matches against the Cavaliers and Hokies are slated to begin at 6:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
