Virginia Volleyball Knocks Off Boston College 3-0

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Third-year outside hitter Sarah Kirkwood (Tampa, Fla.) and third-year middle Katie Oakes (Lorton, Va.) combined for 29 kills while leading the Virginia volleyball team to a 3-0 (30-20, 30-25, 30-21) victory over Boston College Saturday (Nov. 4) at Memorial Gym. It marked the sixth consecutive victory for UVa, which ties the school record for consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference wins. The Cavaliers now stand at 19-6 overall and 12-4 in the ACC. The Eagles fall to 8-6 overall and 6-9 in the conference.

Sarah Kirkwood led all players with 15 kills and four service aces to increase her league-leading aces total to 44. Kirkwood hit .361 and added five digs, two assists and a block. Oakes hit an impressive .500 with 14 kills on 28 attempts with no errors. She also registered a pair of blocks in the victory. First-year outside hitter Lauren Dickson (Austin, Texas) was the third Virginia player to reach double figures in kills as she had 11 while hitting .429. Dickson also added three aces and three digs.

Fourth-year setter Emily Kirkwood (Tampa, Fla.) dished out 37 assists and also contributed seven digs and two service aces. Fourth-year Emily Perilli (Thompson's Station, Tenn.) tied Kirkwood for team-high honors in digs with seven. Second-year middle Shannon Davis (Austin, Texas) led all players with four blocks, including two solo stuffs. She also tallied three kills and three digs.

Hokies hold off Maryland comeback in 3-2 win

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech volleyball team rebounded from a close five-game loss last night to Boston College with a five-game win over Maryland tonight, by scores of 30-25, 26-30, 30-12, 28-30 and 15-10.

Freshman Taylor Parrish led all players with 20 kills, while picking up a team-high 16 digs, marking her eighth career double-double. Senior Kendra Sytsma contributed a career-high 12 kills, while senior Allie Kupec hit a team-high .450 with 11 kills.

Freshman Michelle Lang dished out 52 assists, while juniors Amanda Cloyd and Rachel Dulla collected 14 and 12 digs, respectively. Cloyd also landed four service aces.

Katie Usher led the Terps with 17 kills and Jade Brown added 13. Tedi Doucet handed out 25 assists and collected 11 digs, while Beth Gillming led all players with 23 digs.
