Virginia Tech Outside Hitter Justine Record Takes ACC Volleyball Player of the Week Honors
Oct. 19, 2009 GREENSBORO, N.C. - Virginia Tech sophomore outside hitter Justine Record is selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, announced Monday, for leading the Hokies to big wins over Georgia Tech (Oct. 16) and Clemson (Oct. 17). Record also set career-highs in kills and digs in two matches over the weekend. Record tallied 13 kills and hit at a .321 clip with eight digs in a 3-0 sweep of Georgia Tech. She also put up an assist, blocked an attack, and served four aces against the Yellow Jackets. Record followed that performance with a career day against Clemson. Record posted career-highs of 26 kills and 15 digs--her fourth double-double of the season--and added an assist and four more service aces in a come-from-behind, 3-2 victory over the Tigers. The Redwood City, Calif. native, totaled 39 kills against 14 errors in 82 attempts for a .305 hitting percentage over the weekend, with 23 digs and eight service aces and helped propel the Hokies to 15-5 overall and 5-4 in the conference, while also forcing a four-way tie for fifth place, including a deadlock with Clemson. Virginia Tech will return to action on Friday, October 23 with an 8 p.m. bout at Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Mass., and will then travel to College Park, Md. on Sunday, October 25 for a 1 p.m. match against the Terrapins, The ACC Volleyball Player of the Week will be announced by 5:00 p.m. each Monday during the season.
