![]() Miami Outside Hitter Lane Carico Named ACC Volleyball Player of the Week
Oct. 5, 2009
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Miami senior outside hitter Lane Carico recorded back-to-back 30-kill matches, including a school single-match record of 36 against Clemson, en route to being named this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Player of the Week. In two matches this weekend—a 3-2 loss Clemson (Oct. 2) and a 3-2 win against Georgia Tech (Oct. 4)—Carico totaled 66 kills for a 6.60 kills per set average, a .303 hitting percentage, 33 digs for a 3.30 digs per set average, one service ace, and two total blocks. Despite a 3-2 loss at the hands of Clemson, the Manhattan Beach, Calif., native, smashed a school-record 36 kills against only 11 errors in a school-record 83 total attacks for a .301 hitting percentage, and collected 17 digs for the double-double, one service ace, and one block. Carico followed her performance against the Tigers by becoming the only Hurricane to post back-to-back 30-kill matches in school history in Miami’s 3-2 victory over Georgia Tech, who previously had an unblemished ACC record. She hit .306 against the Yellow Jackets in 72 attacks with just eight errors and recorded 16 more digs for the double-double—her fifth straight and seventh for the season—and another block. Carico, the 2008 ACC and American Volleyball Coaches Association East Region Freshman of the Year, leads the conference in both kills (243) and kills per set (4.19). Her 36 kills against Clemson and 30 against Georgia Tech are the top-two performances in the ACC this season, and her 83 attacks against Clemson and 72 against Georgia Tech are also the two best marks in the league. Miami will return to action Thursday, October 8 with a 7 p.m. tilt at Wake Forest in Reynolds Gymnasium in Winston-Salem, N.C., then will travel to Durham, N.C. on Friday, October 9 to take on Duke in Cameron Indoor Stadium at 7 p.m. The ACC Volleyball Player of the Week will be announced by 5:00 p.m. each Monday during the season.
