![]() Duke Outside Hitter Rachael Moss Named ACC Volleyball Player of the Week
Sept. 28, 2009
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Duke senior outside hitter Rachael Moss reached the 1,300-dig and 1,400-kill plateau in matches against Maryland and Boston College en route to being named the Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Player of the Week. With Moss’s help, Duke improved to 13-2 overall and 3-0 in the ACC with 3-0 sweeps of Maryland (Sept. 25) and Boston College (Sept. 27). The Cypress, Calif., native is the second Blue Devil to receive the honor in as many weeks after sophomore setter Kellie Catanach took Player of the Week honors last week. Moss entered the match with the Terrapins with 1,291 career digs and recorded her 1,300th with 11 digs and a team-high 11 kills for her fourth consecutive double-double. Her 11 kills against only three errors in 24 total attacks gave Moss a .333 hitting percentage. Moss was one kill away from her fifth straight double-double against the Eagles, as she collected a team-high nine kills—eclipsing 1,400 career digs—and a match-high 17 digs to give her 1,319 for her career, moving her into fourth place all-time in school history. Additionally, she served a match-high four aces. In the two-match stretch, Moss recorded team-highs of 20 kills and 46 attacks, with just five errors for a .326 hitting percentage, and 29 digs. Moss is third among Blue Devils with 112 kills and 2.80 kills per set, second with 114 digs and 2.85 digs per set, and is ninth in the conference with 0.35 service aces per set this season. Duke returns to action this Friday, October 2 with a 7 p.m. match against Virginia at Cameron Indoor Stadium, and will play again on Saturday, October 3 when it hosts Virginia Tech at 7 p.m. The ACC Volleyball Player of the Week will be announced by 5:00 p.m. each Monday during the season.
