Miami's Johnson, Boston College's Workman Named ACC Players of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Miami junior right side Alex Johnson and Boston College freshman outside hitter Katty Workman have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Player and Freshman of the Week, announced by the conference on Monday.
Johnson helped lead the Hurricanes to a big win over No. 6 Florida State in front of a record crowd and national television audience on Friday night. The junior totaled a match-high 16 kills and 16 digs in the four-set match. She also committed just three errors in 38 total attempts for an efficient .342 hitting percentage. The native of Tallahassee, Fla., also contributed three total blocks against the Seminoles. Johnson now has 95 kills (3.17 k/s) on a .333 hitting percentage this season, as well as 86 digs (2.87 d/s) and four double-doubles.
Friday's victory was the first time the Canes had ever defeated a top-10 opponent. Coming into the match, FSU had dropped just three sets in six matches. Miami has now won 10 in a row and 21 of the last 22 at home.
Workman tallied two double-doubles in three matches over the weekend as the Eagles improved to 6-4 with wins versus George Washington and at Maryland. In the 11 sets played, she averaged 3.18 kills and 2.82 digs. Against the Terrapins, the Thousand Oaks, Calif., native posted 12 kills and 11 digs to help the Eagles win their conference opener. The 16 kills and 14 digs in the win over George Washington marked her fifth double-double of the season.
