Sarah Kirkwood Leads Virginia Volleyball To 3-1 Win Over Pacific
ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Third-year outside hitter Sarah Kirkwood (Tampa, Fla.) slammed a season-high 26 kills while hitting .451, and added 20 digs to lead the Virginia volleyball team to a 3-1 (30-26, 24-30, 30-27, 30-27) victory over Pacific Friday afternoon (Sept. 8) in the Michigan/Pepsi Challenge at Cliff Keen Arena. The win is also the 200th career coaching victory for UVa head coach Melissa Aldrich Shelton. With the victory, the Cavaliers improve to 6-1 on the season and continue play in the Michigan/Pepsi Challenge Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. against host Michigan.

Tech Sweeps George Washington in Hokie Invite
BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech Volleyball team broke a three-match losing streak with a 30-25, 30-26, 34-32 sweep over George Washington in the second game of the Hokie Fall Invitational.  Freshman Taylor Parrish led the offense with 15 kills and Sophomore Sarah Munoz knocked down 14.

Boston College Falls to UConn
Storrs, Conn. - Senior Allison Anderson registered 38 digs and junior Kelsey Johnson continued her strong play, adding 14 kills and 10 digs, but BC lost a gripping five game match against the University of Connecticut at the Uconn Volleyball Classic. With the loss, the Eagles fall to 0-4 on the season while Uconn remains undefeated.

Virginia Volleyball Falls 3-0 to Michigan
ANN ARBOR, Mich. - After posting an impressive 3-1 win over Pacific earlier in the day, the Virginia volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (30-26, 30-21, 30-27) loss to Michigan Friday evening (Sept. 8) in the Michigan/Pepsi Challenge at Cliff Keen Arena. The loss to the Wolverines snaps UVa's six-match winning streak as the Cavaliers fall to 6-2 on the season and 1-1 in the tournament. Michigan remains perfect in 2006 with a 9-0 record.

Jackets Sweep on Day One of Kentucky Volleyball Classic
LEXINGTON, Ky. - Junior Ulrike Stegemann 46 percent for the afternoon with 25 kills and junior Lindsey Gray (10kills, 11 digs) and sophomore Allie Niekamp (51 assists, 13 digs) added double-doubles to lead Georgia Tech (5-1) to a pair of victories over Villanova (1-5), 3-1 (31-29, 30-23, 16-30, 30-26), and Toledo, 3-1 (30-21, 30-24, 27-30, 30-24), at the Kentucky Volleyball Classic on Friday.

Terp Volleyball Sweeps Albany
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Jade Brown's 15 kills led the Maryland volleyball team to a 3-0 victory (30-25, 30-17, 31-29), over the University at Albany Friday afternoon in the Holiday Inn Express Invitational at Stony Brook University. With the win, Maryland improved its record to 4-1 overall, while the Great Danes dropped to 2-5.

Terp Volleyball Falls to No. 17 Ohio
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Terrapins' strong blocking wasn't enough to top No. 17 Ohio today, as the Terps fell 3-1 (29-31, 30-26, 23-30 and 22-30) at the Holiday Inn Express Invitational in Long Island, N.Y. The Terps stand at 3-1, while Ohio improves to 4-2 on the season.

FSU Volleyball Opens Gamecock Invitational With 3-0 Loss to No. 10 Southern California
COLMUBIA, S.C. - Florida State volleyball head coach Todd Kress is in the process of building his program into Top 25 squad and the young Seminoles got a taste of it takes to get to that level during the opening contest of the Gamecock Invitational. Florida State hung in with No. 10 Southern California, but in the end lost its first match of the season in a 3-0 defeat (22-30, 20-30, 26-30) on Friday (Sept. 8) at South Carolina's Volleyball Competition Facility.

Seminole Volleyball Can't Sustain Fast Start, Drops 3-1 Decision to St. John's
COLMUBIA, S.C. - After its game one victory over St. John's, it appeared the young Florida State University volleyball team was applying the lessons it learned in the loss to No. 10 USC earlier in the day. However, the Seminoles showed they still have some growing pains to go through as the Redstorm fought back to win the next three games and take the match 3-1 (30-25, 26-30, 23-30, 26-30) on Friday (Sept. 8) during the first day of the Gamecock Invitational at South Carolina's Volleyball Competition Facility.

Tar Heels Swept By Illini
CHAPEL HILL - Noelle Dyk matched a career high with 17 kills, but North Carolina dropped its sixth straight match to Illinois, 30-28, 35-33, 30-26, Friday night in the Carolina Volleyball Classic at Carmichael Auditorium. Stephanie Alde hit a sparkling .632 with 13 kills to lead the Illini (7-0).

Wake Forest Volleyball Falls to Indiana in Five Games
DAYTON, Ohio - Despite a double-double performance by redshirt sophomore Jessica Furlong, the Wake Forest volleyball team fell in five games to Indiana Friday evening in the opening match of the Marriott Flyer Invitational. The Hoosiers defeated the Demon Deacons 21-30, 30-22, 30-23, 29-31, 15-11.

NC State Volleyball Downs Chicago State, 3-1
KENT, Ohio - The NC State volleyball team grabbed its second win of the season on Friday, Sept. 8, downing Chicago State, 3-1, in its first match at the Kent State University Invitational in Kent, Ohio. The red and white posted a .328 hitting percentage on the evening, tops for the season. The Pack took the first game (30-18), fell in the second (25-30) and then regrouped to collect the third (30-22) and fourth (30-22) frames to pick up the win. In victory, the Pack jumps to 2-5 on the season.
