Clemson's Kelsey Murphy Tabbed ACC Volleyball Player of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Clemson senior setter Kelsey Murphy has been selected Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of August 31 for her effort in guiding Clemson to the DePaul Challenge championship. The New Lenox, Ill., native returned to her home state to lead the Tigers to the DePaul Challenge crown with a perfect 3-0 record and consecutive sweeps against Loyola (Ill.), Western Illinois, and DePaul to run Clemson’s winning streak to five matches and improve its record to 5-1. Against Loyola, Murphy recorded her 4,000th career assist. She followed that performance with a match-high 38 assists in guiding the Tigers to a season-high .400 hitting percentage against Western Illinois. The tournament finale against DePaul marked the 100th career match for Murphy, and in her century game she reached the 1,000-dig plateau. Additionally, she had three block assists, which moved her into eighth-place all-time at Clemson with 334. Murphy finished the weekend with 93 assists, nearly 44 percent of Clemson’s 114, 21 digs, and 11 total blocks, and was named the DePaul Challenge Most Valuable Player honor. She now has 4,080 assists and 1,003 digs for her career. The ACC Volleyball Player of the Week will be announced by 5 p.m. each Monday during the season.
