Florida State looks to end its two-game losing streak on Friday, Sept. 7th, as the garnet and gold take on Washington at the Long Beach State Invitational. The last meeting between the Seminoles and the Huskies was on Sept. 9, 1995 at the Rhode Island Classic Tournament. Florida State lost that match 3-0 (1-15, 14-16, 5-15) and hopes to even the score this weekend. On Saturday, Sept. 8th, FSU goes up against meet host Long Beach State who leads the all-time series 3-0. The 49ers swept the Noles 3-0 (7-15, 5-15, 4-15) in their most recent meeting on Sept. 18, 1998, at the Santa Barbara Tournament. Coming off a disappointing loss to in-state rival Florida, the Seminoles look to category leaders senior Summer Weissing, junior Mira Djuric and freshman Lauren Rosenthal. Weissing tops Florida State in digs with 75, and average of 3.26 dpg, while Rosenthal leads in assists with 202 (8.78 apg). Djuric is working overtime, climbing to the No. 1 spot in kills per game with 3.43, total kills with 79, 20 service aces and 110 points, an average of 4.78 ppg.
vs. #6 Florida...
Florida State broke its drought against SEC teams last season after defeating South Carolina 3-2 (30-25, 26-30, 30-23, 26-30, 15-13) in the final match of the Gamecock Invitational. The Seminoles have lost their last 15 matches against Florida with the Gators leading the all-time series 29-21. FSU's last win was a 3-0 decision on October 31, 1994. The Seminoles are 8-11 at home against the Gators and 6-14 at Florida. Sophomore Biranna Barry was awarded two weekends in a row with All-Tournament team honors - first at the FSU Invitational and last weekend at the Spartan Invitational in East Lansing, Mich.
