Volleyball: ACC Player of the week Monique Mead, Georgia Tech

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Georgia Tech freshman outside hitter Monique Mead is selected as this week's Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week after turning in a most valuable player performance at the Georgia Tech Regency Suites Invitational this past weekend.

The Newnan, Ga. native helped Georgia Tech to a perfect 3-0 record at its Aug. 28-29 tournament with a 3-2 win (25-15, 25-19, 24-26, 23-25, 16-14) against in-state arch-rival Georgia on Friday night, and identical 3-0 victories against Austin Peay (25-19, 25-18, 25-17) and Mercer (25-22, 25-16, 25-17) on Saturday.

Mead tallied double-doubles in the first two matches of her collegiate career. Against Georgia, she notched 20 kills on 37 attacks (.351) and recorded 10 digs in her collegiate debut. She also had seven assists and two service aces against the Dawgs. Mead followed her debut performance with 11 kills and 10 digs against Austin Peay. The freshman also had 10 digs against Mercer.

The three-match tournament saw Mead play in all 11 of the Yellow Jackets' sets and tally totals of 37 kills (3.36 kills/set) against just 13 errors for a .312 hitting percentage. In addition, Mead had 11 assists (1.00 assists/set), five service aces (0.45 aces/set), 30 digs (3.73 digs/set), and seven blocks (0.64 blocks/set).

Her efforts earned her the Georgia Tech Regency Suites Invitational most valuable player award and helped the Yellow Jackets to the tournament title with a perfect 3-0 slate.
