Former Midshipmen Joins NC State Volleyball

July 11, 2002

Raleigh, N.C.- - NC State volleyball coach Mary Byrne has announced the addition of Heather Wilson to the 2002 NC State volleyball team. Wilson comes from the Naval Academy and will be entering her junior year as a member of the Wolfpack.

A 6-foot-2 outside hitter, Wilson was originally recruited to play basketball for the Midshipmen. As a freshman, she appeared in 23 games, starting three times. Wilson averaged 1.9 points and two rebounds per contest. She went on to total a team-high 14 blocked shots on the year, the second best total by a freshman in Navy history.

After her freshman year, Wilson did not compete during the 2000-01 season and left the Academy after her sophomore year to attend State. There she joins a class of five newcomers in 2002 as the Wolfpack looks to make a run for first place in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
