Duke Volleyball Tabbed To Finish Third In Pre-Season ACC Coaches Poll
June 25, 2001
DURHAM, N.C. - The Duke volleyball team was picked to finish third in the 2000 ACC volleyball coaches pre-season poll, the ACC office announced on Monday. The poll is voted on by the conference coaches.
Georgia Tech was picked to win the conference followed by North Carolina. The Yellow Jackets and Tar Heels tied for the regular season title a year ago. The Blue Devils, who advanced to the NCAA Volleyball Tournament in 2000, finished in fifth place with an 8-8 league record. "This is a testament to our team's hard work and our strong finish last season," said head coach Jolene Nagel. "I believe once again the league will be very competitive. The scoring change that will take effect this season could make the race even tighter. Duke, which advanced to the ACC Tournament's championship match, returns five of six starters from last years squad and adds four freshmen to the team.
