Duke Volleyball Coach Resigns

June 24, 1999

DURHAM, N.C. - Duke volleyball coach Linda Grensing resigned on Thursday to become the head coach at Iowa State. This marks the second stint in Ames for the Davenport, Iowa native, who spent four years as a Cyclones assistant coach from 1988-91. Grensing spent four seasons at the helm of the Blue Devil volleyball program, guiding it to a 46-66 overall ledger and a 29-33 ACC mark.

Under Grensing, the Duke volleyball team produced five All-ACC selections and 1996 ACC Rookie of the Year Sarah Peifer. Grensing also had 20 ACC Academic Honor Roll selections during her tenure in Durham. The Blue Devils best season under Grensing came in 1996 when they finished 15-12 overall and 10-6 in the ACC. Last year, Duke posted a 9-20 record and a 4-12 ACC mark.

A national search for a replacement will begin immediately.
