Tech Volleyball Team Begins Two-Week European Trip This Week
May 15, 2007 ATLANTA - The Georgia Tech volleyball team will embark upon a two-week trip to Europe beginning May 17 and continuing through the first of June. The squad will play six matches against various German, Austrian and Czech Republic Junior National and Club teams during their stay and in their spare time, be able to tour the three countries. "This is such a great opportunity for our team to extend the strong spring season we had this year," says Georgia Tech head coach Bond Shymansky. "We know that we are on the cusp of a break-out year. "With so many returning starters to our line-up, the extra training and play will really boost our readiness for the fall season. We will play against high caliber teams in Europe, and we don't often get to compete against professional players. We will also get to play against the best German high school players during our matches versus the Junior National and Youth National Teams. "On top of all of the great volleyball opportunities is the chance to experience a new culture and different part of the world. Most of our players have never been to Europe, and many may never get to go again. So we will make the most of the adventure and enjoy the experience as a team." The team will visit the cities of Mainz, Hiedelberg, Munich, Salzburg (Austria), Prague (Czach Republic), Chemnitz, Berlin, Potsdam and Greifswald during their two-week tour of Europe, and "recaps" of their trip can be found at www.ramblinwreck.com.
