Wake Forest Volleyball Adds Three More For 2006-07
May 11, 2006 WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest volleyball head coach Heather Kahl Homes announced the additions of Abby Miller, Sally Fischer and Sara Uniacke to the incoming class of 2006-07. ""All three players are great additions to our program," Holmes said. "They understand the importance of commitment and hard work and they will contribute to our team's success both on and off the court." Miller joins Wake Forest as a four year varsity athlete for North Davidson High School. A defensive specialist/libero, Miller was named the CPC Player of the Year her junior year and was honored on the all-conference teams three times. A Flow Honda Athlete of the Week, Miller was also named to the Greensboro All-Area second team in 2005. A scholar athlete, Miller is a two year National Honor Society member and served as the executive secretary in her senior year "Abby is an incredible athlete with a `relentless pursuit' attitude for each play," Holmes said. "Her ability to make big plays in the back court will allow us to be very successful defensively and her work ethic will immediately challenge the other defensive specialists for playing time." Fischer, a 5-10 outside hitter/defensive specialist from Indianapolis, Ind., joins the Deacs as a four year starter and letterwinnner for Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School. Named second team all-state and to the all-area team twice, Fischer helped her team to a pair of state championships and two regional titles. A standout in the classroom, she spent six semesters on the class honor roll for holding a 4.0 grade point average and was a member of the National Honor Society. "Sally, a former high school teammate of red-shirt sophomore Natalie Mullikin, is a versatile player with strong ball control skills," Holmes said. "She will add depth and experience to the defensive specialists as well as the outside hitters." Uniacke is a 5-5 defensive specialist/libero from Cardinal Gibbons High School in Raleigh, N.C. She was the 2002 Rookie of the Year for the Cardinals and was named to the TISAC All-Conference squad in 2004. The No. 84 Prepvolleyball.com recruit, Uniacke earned three state championship titles, four consecutive regular season titles and four conference championships. "Sara comes to us from highly competitive and successful programs both in high school and in club," Holmes said. "She is a very intelligent and steady player, who will bring a tremendous amount of ball control to our back court. We look to her to be a primary passer for us." Miller, Fischer and Uniacke join Lindsay Gardner from Manhattan Beach, Calif., Kate Rodriguez of Glen Ellyn, Ill. and Dylan Faulkner of Austin Texas as the class of 2010.
