WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest volleyball team, along with five other athletic teams and more than 30 student groups, took time out of its busy schedule to participate in Project D.E.S.K (Discovering Education through Student Knowledge). The Demon Deacons spent the afternoon decorating desks with students from Old Town Elementary School.

"This project was a great way for us to give back to the community," Wake Forest junior Lauren Peterson said. "The kids were so excited and grateful, which made everything worth it. We had so much fun working with them and can't wait to deliver the desks to their houses!"

Project D.E.S.K was started in 2003 by two Wake Forest students who recognized the need for students they were tutoring at Old Town Elementary School to have better spaces at home to do schoolwork. It is coordinated by the Wake Forest Volunteer Service Core and Demon Deacon athletic teams have been taking part in the project since 2005.
