Duke Volleyball Adds Commitment To Class Of 2004
April 14, 2004 Duke volleyball head coach Jolene Nagel has announced the latest addition to the incoming class of 2004. Shelley Capito has made a commitment to attend Duke University and will play for the Blue Devils in the fall. Capito, a native of Charleston, W.Va., was a three-year letterwinner for head coach Dana Ferrell at George Washington High School. The 5-11 setter/hitter earned first-team all-conference honors her sophomore through senior years. A nominee for the High School Heisman Award, she garnered honorable mention all-state accolades as a sophomore and was a second-team all-state selection as a junior. In her final season at George Washington, Capito was a first-team all-state honoree, member of the state tournament all-tournament and runner-up for AAA West Virginia Player of the Year. She averaged 5.0 kills per game, while tallying 377 assists, 108 digs and 93 blocks in her senior campaign. "We are very excited to have Shelley be a part of our program," said Nagel. "Shelley is a well rounded athlete with the versatility to contribute in different areas for our team. Her work ethic and drive will help her succeed on the court."
Capito will be joined in the class of 2004 by a pair of student-athletes who have already signed letters-of-intent.
