Wasielewski Promoted to Associate Head Volleyball Coach
Jan. 10, 2003 After serving four years as assistant volleyball coach at Duke University, John Wasielewski has been promoted to associate head coach, Blue Devil head coach Jolene Nagel announced Friday. "I am delighted to announce that John Wasielewski has been named associate head coach of Duke University Volleyball," Nagel said. "His quality experience as a player and coach as well as his commitment to the program make him worthy of such recognition. As we try to make our mark on the national scene for volleyball, Coach Wasielewski is vital to our continued growth." In Wasielewski's four years at Duke, the Blue Devils have compiled an 81-42 mark and advanced to the NCAA Tournament the last three seasons. Before coming to Duke, Wasielewski served six seasons as the head coach at St. Bonaventure University.
A 1990 graduate of Penn State, Wasielewski was a four-year member of the Nittany Lion team, helping Penn State to NCAA Final Four appearances in 1987 and 1989. A two-year team captain, Wasielewski still holds the Penn State record with nine service aces in a game, which he accomplished in 1990.
