![]() Duke Blanks Maryland in Quarterfinal Action of the 2002 ACC Volleyball Championship
Nov. 22, 2002 Atlanta, Ga. - No. 3 seeded Duke downed No. 6 seeded Maryland 3-0 (30-28, 30-22, 30-22) at the 2002 ACC Volleyball Championship Friday in O'Keefe Gymnasium. Duke (24-8) advances to play No. 2 seeded Georgia Tech Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. Maryland falls to 18-14 with the loss. Duke won the first game 30-28 in a tough defensive match-up. Second-team All-ACC Josie Weymann led all players with eight digs for the Blue Devils. The Blue Devils hit .283 to the Terrapins .096 in game two, winning 30-22. Duke was paced by ACC All-Freshmen team member Sarah Salem, who collected five kills, two service aces, three digs and one block assist. Duke won the third game 30-22, holding Maryland to a .067 hitting percentage. Duke was led by Salem with ten kills and six digs and Arielle Linderman who had four kills, 18 kills, five digs and two block assists.
Maryland's Carey Brennan led the Terrapins with 12 kills and 18 digs. Rachel Wagener contributed eight kills and three block assists in the match.
