![]() Georgia Tech Sweeps Wake Forest to Advance to Semifinals of the 2002 ACC Volleyball Championship
Nov. 22, 2002 Atlanta, Ga. - No. 2 seeded Georgia Tech defeated No. 7 seeded Wake Forest 3-0 (30-27, 30-20, 30-23) at the 2002 ACC Volleyball Championship Friday in O'Keefe Gymnasium. Georgia Tech (29-5) advances to play the winner of the No. 3 Duke/No. 6 Maryland match Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. With the loss, Wake Forest falls to 13-18. "What a great performance by all of our players tonight who worked hard through their nerves and jitters and found a way to win," said head coach Bond Shymansky. "We are so excited to be playing well in front of our home crowd. I thought that Lynnette had a great match and Alexandra was simply dominating. We look forward to facing Duke or Maryland in tomorrow's semifinal match." Twentieth-ranked Georgia Tech defeated Wake Forest in game one, 30-27. First-team All-ACC performer Lynnette Moster turned in 11 kills and three digs for the Yellow Jackets. With a strong offensive performance from its middles, Georgia Tech took game two 30-20. Jayme Gergen, Alexandra Preiss and Laura Kuhn combined for 13 of the Yellow Jackets' 21 kills. Georgia Tech hit .400 as a team. ACC Rookie of the Year Christy Williams hit .444 with four kills for Wake Forest. Georgia Tech swept Wake Forest with its 30-23 win in the third game of the match. The Yellow Jackets hit .381 in the match with three players in double-digit kills. Moster finished the match with 18 kills and eight digs, while Preiss posted 14 kills and two blocks. Kuhn added 10 kills and two blocks.
Williams led the Deacons with 11 kills and a .231 hitting percentage, while Valerie Rydberg posted 11 kills and 13 digs.
