    ATLANTA -- Virginia's Celeste Laborde and Simona Kuipers combined for 18 kills, 11 digs and three blocks as No. 8 Virginia took down No. 9 seeded NC State, 3-0 (30-22, 30-19, 30-27) at the 2002 ACC Volleyball Championship Thursday evening in O'Keefe Gymnasium.

    Virginia (9-24) will now face No. 1 seeded North Carolina (28-2) at 1:30 p.m. Friday. NC State ends its season at 3-32.

    Virginia started the game with an 11-5 advantage, but saw NC State close the gap to 18-16. Virginia then took control of the game with a 12-6 run to win 30-22. The Cavaliers were paced by outside hitter Paige Davis, who recorded seven kills, five digs and three service aces.

    In game two, Virginia took an early 3-0 lead and never looked back, holding NC State to a -.029 hitting percentage. Cavalier senior Simona Kuipers pounded out five kills to lead all players in the second game, hitting .417.

    Virginia won the third game 30-27, with the Cavaliers leading the Wolfpack in kills, service aces, digs and block assists.

    Maya Mapp led NC State with nine kills and three block assists. Rebecca Anderson had six kills and 11 digs for the Wolfpack, while Caroline Frede added 17 digs.
