Seminoles Take Down Eagles 3-1 To Complete The Series Sweep CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Florida State continues its road victory streak as it took down Boston College 3-1 (25-11, 17-25, 25-18, 25-20) inside Power Gym on Friday, November 7. After sweeping the Eagles at home last month, the win complete the series sweep for the Seminoles who are now 16-8 overall and 8-6 in the ACC. BC slips to 7-19 and 1-13 in the conference. "We looked a step slow all night," Florida State head coach Chris Poole said. "I think when you travel in the conference, no matter what conference and no matter who you play, that adds an additional obstacle that you have to try to overcome. I'm very proud of the way the girls came back and finished it off on the road because it could have gotten nasty quick."
Duke Upends ACC Leader Clemson 3-1 DURHAM, N.C. – Rachael Moss had 18 kills and Jourdan Norman put back eight blocks as the Duke volleyball team upended ACC leader Clemson 3-1 (25-17, 25-27, 27-25, 25-21) Friday evening in Cameron Indoor Stadium. The win bumps Duke from a tie for second place to a tie for first in the ACC standings. Moss used a team-high 54 attacks in the win and picked up her 12th double-double of the season with 20 digs. Duke (19-7, 10-4 ACC) held Clemson (18-7, 10-4 ACC), which led the ACC in hitting percentage entering the match, to a .156 hitting percentage, thanks to the eight-block effort from Duke’s all-time block leader Norman, who ran her career total to 594 and extended a streak of 74 straight matches with a block that dates back to her sophomore season.
Tech Volleyball Wins Five Set Thriller at Wake Forest WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Chrissy DeMichelis pounded out 19 kills while Callie Miller and Talisa Kellogg added 16 apiece to lead Georgia Tech (18-6, 10-4) back from an 0-2 deficit to win a 3-2 (24-26, 21-25, 25-23, 25-19, 15-12) thriller at Wake Forest (16-10, 7-7 ACC) Friday night at Reynolds Gym. The Jackets were forced to rally in each of the final three sets to hand the Demon Deacons just their second home loss of the season after they entered the match with a 12-1 record at Reynolds Gym in 2008.
Mayhew Paces Hurricanes Volleyball past Maryland, 3-0 College Park, Md. - The University of Miami volleyball team used a 14-kill performance by junior Genny Mayhew as it swept past Maryland, 3-0, Friday evening in an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup inside Comcast Pavilion. The Hurricanes' 25-19, 25-21, 27-25 victory pushed their season mark to 21-6 and gave them their first-ever season series sweep of the Terrapins. Miami (21-6, 9-5 ACC) equaled their total number of wins against the homestanding Maryland Terrapins this season as they trailed the all-time series, 7-2, entering 2008. They defeated Maryland both times this year, in the process earning their first-ever victory in College Park.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The North Carolina volleyball team moved into a tie for first in the Atlantic Coast Conference Friday night in Charlottesville, Va. as the Tar Heels held on for a 3-2 (25-23, 25-20, 25-27, 22-25, 15-7) win over the Cavaliers. Redshirt freshman Courtney Johnston led the Tar Heel attack with 18 kills, while committing just five errors on the night. Carolina will look to extend its winning streak to six Saturday night when the Tar Heels take on Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. at 6 p.m. The match can be seen on ACC Select. The Tar Heels cruised in the opening two sets and looked to make it three straight sweeps after Carolina took down Boston College and Maryland, 3-0, a week ago. Carolina led from the opening point through the first two sets with only one tie in the opening set win and a pair of ties in the second. Carolina led by as many as eight (19-11) in the opening set before Virginia battled back late to pull within a single point at 24-23 before senior Lauren Prussing deposited a kill for the 25-23 win.
Balanced Attack Helps Hokies End Two-Match Losing Skid BLACKSBURG, Va.– The Virginia Tech volleyball squad recovered from an 0-2 road trip last weekend in a big way on Friday, with a sweep of North Carolina State (25-23, 25-22, 25-16) at Cassell Coliseum in Blacksburg, Va. Tech (18-7, 9-5 ACC) hit .239 on the night, and held the Wolfpack (9-20, 3-11) to a .067 clip. Six different Hokies recorded at least one block in the match. Freshman Justine Record led the team in kills with 13, and also tallied three blocks, two of the solo variety. Junior Taylor Parrish registered 10 kills and two blocks in the effort. Junior Jill Gergen dug 15 attacks, while freshman Erin Leaser contributed 35 assists.
