Heels Pulverize Pack
The University of North Carolina volleyball team rebounded in a big way Tuesday night sweeping N.C. State 3-0 with set scores 25-10, 25-13 and 25-18. Carolina improves to 12-12 overall and 8-5 in league play, while the Wolfpack fall to 7-21 overall and 0-13 in league play. The Tar Heels used a balanced attack led by freshman Emily McGee who notched 14 kills and 12 digs Tuesday. Seniors Branagan Fuller and Ingrid Hanson-Tuntland added a combined 17 kills while Erica Behm serviced the Carolina attack with 36 assists. Sophomore Morgan Fox played in a career high three sets, registering four digs.
Senior Heather Brooks earned second place ranking in school history with her three block assists. Brooks moved past Holly Strauss (1999-2002), with 372 career block assists. The East Lansing, Mich. native also ranks in the top-five in school history in blocking average.
It was all Tar Heels in the opening frame as Carolina dominated with a 25-10 score. The Tar Heels were trailing 2-0 early, but used a 10-2 run to force a Wolf Pack timeout. The Tar Heels registered a .323 hitting percentage in set one compared to the Pack's lowly -.069 clip.
