UNC Volleyball Sweeps Deacs

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Carolina women's volleyball made it two wins in two days as they downed Wake Forest in three games (15-8, 15-6, 15-3).

Wake Forest was the only team in the ACC Carolina had yet to beat.

Carolina finished the match with a .361 hitting percentage while Wake had a .088 percentage. Freshman Trina Maso de Moya led the Demon Deacons with nine kills and 11 digs. Setter Julie Cowley had 33 assists in the match.

Wake Forest, the third leading blocking team in the ACC was held to zero blocks while Carolina dominated the net with 14 total team blocks. Junior Shannon Smith accounted for half of the Tar Heel blocks finishing with 7 total blocks. Setter Erin Berg had 48 assists and Junior Casey Simpson had a solid performance with 14 kills and nine digs.

Carolina's win was crucial in keeping them on top of the ACC standings. The win improves the Tar Heels' record to 17-3 and 10-2 in the ACC. Wake Forest drops to 18-9 overall.

The victory keeps the Tar Heels undefeated in Carmichael Auditorium (14-0). The Heels are in action again Tuesday night as they travel to NC State to take on the Wolfpack at 7:00 p.m.
