Volleyball ACCtion: Saturday, November 1
Nov. 1, 2008
CLEMSON, SC - The Clemson volleyball team avenged a loss to Virginia Tech earlier this season and, in doing so, claimed sole possession of first place in the conference standings. With their 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-11) sweep of the Hokies on Saturday night, the Tigers became the first ACC team to reach 10 league wins.
Clemson is now 10-3 against ACC foes with an 18-6 overall record. Virginia Tech won a 3-1 decision over the TIgers in late September on its home court, but Saturday's loss was the Hokies second straight to drop them to 17-7 overall and 8-5 in the conference.
ATLANTA - Callie Miller hit .533 and Chrissy DeMichelis notched a match-best 10 kills to guide Georgia Tech (17-6, 9-4 ACC) to a 3-0 (25-19-25-22, 25-16) win over Virginia (13-12, 5-8 ACC) Saturday evening at O'Keefe Gym. The win was the Yellow Jackets' sixth sweep in their last seven matches and gave Tech sole possession of second place in the league standings.
Setters Allie Niekamp and Mary Ashley Tippins ran a balanced and efficient offense as the Yellow Jackets hit .298 as a team with four different players posting at least seven kills in the three-set match. Miller had nine kills and just one error on 15 swings while Talisa Kellogg and Bailey Hunter added seven kills apiece.
