Nothing Scary: FSU Beats VT

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The No. 17 Florida State volleyball had a very happy Halloween in Blacksburg, Va. as the Seminoles earned a 3-1 (25-19, 25-21, 19-25, 25-16) victory over Virginia Tech

By taking down the Hokies (16-8, 6-7 Atlantic Coast Conference), the Seminoles (21-2, 12-1) maintain their first-place spot in the conference while extending their program-best league winning streak to nine in a row.

Three 'Noles posted double-digit kills Saturday night with sophomore Rachael Morgan leading the way with 13. Junior Stephanie Neville also had 12 and senior Jordana Price had 10 of her own.

Tigers Take Down Tar Heels in Five Sets on Saturday

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Clemson volleyball fought back from a 2-1 deficit to win in Chapel Hill in five sets (13-25,25-23,19-25,25-20,15-11) to win their third consecutive ACC match. The Tigers (18-7, 8-5 ACC) moved past North Carolina (11-12, 7-5 ACC) in the standings into fourth place with the win. Sandra Adeleye had a career-best 19 kills, while Lia Proctor had 19 of her own to go with 15 digs.

Kelsey Murphy had 46 assists and 11 digs, giving her and Proctor each their tenth double-double of the season. Didem Ege fell one dig short of tying her own record for most digs in a match, as she had 35 on the afternoon. Freshman Serenat Yaz had a career-high eight kills and nine digs in her first major playing time of the season. She had been used primarily as a server before being inserted into the rotation in the second set, and sticking throughout the match. Cansu Ozdemir had three service aces, giving her eight on the weekend overall.


 

 

The Tigers hit .364 in the fifth set on their way to their third five-set win of the season. The Tigers and Tar Heels each won on the other's home floor this season.

Georgia Tech Volleyball Sweeps NC State, 3-0

RALEIGH, N.C. - Senior Chrissy DeMichelis had a team-high 13 kills as the Georgia Tech Volleyball team (16-7, 10-3 ACC) swept NC State (7-9, 0-11), 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-23) Saturday night.

DeMichelis was the only Jacket to record double-figure kills. Senior Brittany Roderick added nine kills, while sophomore Bailey Hunter had eight. Georgia Tech hit just .165 in the match, but held NC State to a .000 clip. Junior Mary Ashley Tippins paced the offense with 36 assists, while junior Jordan McCullers had a team-high 11 digs.

In the first set, it was close for the first part. NC State took its largest lead of the set at 12-10, but the Yellow Jackets then went on a 7-2 run to open up a three-point lead, their largest of the set so far. The Wolfpack later got within a point at 18-17, but Tech closed the set out on a 7-3 run to win 25-20 and take a 1-0 lead for the match. DeMichelis had seven kills in the set for the Yellow Jackets.

Duke Volleyball Tops Maryland, 3-0

DURHAM, N.C. - Senior Katie Usher led the University of Maryland volleyball team with 11 kills on .500 hitting Saturday night at Duke, but the Terrapins fell to the host Blue Devils in three sets, 25-21, 25-18 and 25-18.

Freshman Kara Bates added 10 kills for the second straight match, but Duke (21-4, 11-2 ACC) hit .337 as a team against the Terps (11-15, 3-10 ACC).

Maryland hung with Duke for the majority of the opening set, trailing by one point as late as 17-16. But the Blue Devils pulled away with a 7-2 run and never looked back.

Boston College Falls to Wake Forest, 3-0

The Boston College volleyball team lost to Wake Forest, 3-0 on Saturday night in Winston-Salem, N.C. BC dropped to 11-13 this season while the Demon Deacons moved to 9-15.

The Eagles managed to fight their way through the first set and come within of the Demon Deacons, putting the score at 11-10. Despite their six kills, the Eagles were unable to contain Wake Forest and the Demon Deacons pulled away to grab an early 1-0 lead in the match.

The story was similar in the second set, with the two teams moving along at an even pace, with the score 23-22 nearing the end of the frame. Five kills by junior Melanie Cimino and 11 assists by freshman Krissy Mussenden were still not enough for BC, as it dropped the second frame, 25-22.
