Berg Has 82 Assists as UNC Downs Notre Dame
October 18, 1998 CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolina Volleyball team returned to its winning ways after defeating non-conference opponent Notre Dame in four games (15-10, 15-13, 9-15, 15-8). The win improves Carolina's record to 19-4 and drops Notre Dame to 7-9. Four Tar Heels had a double-double for kills and digs. Junior Tori Seibert finished with 23 kills, 11 digs, Senior Alicia Alford added 188 kills, 11 digs, Sophomore Casey Simpson had a match-high 26 kills and 11 digs and Junior Shannon Smith rounded out the group with 16 kills, 10 digs. North Carolina setter Erin Berg finished the evening with 82 assists. Notre Dame was led by Lindsay Treadwell who had 15 kills, 14 digs and five total blocks. Jo Jameyson also added 11 kills and 12 digs. With the win, the Tar Heels maintain their undefeated record in Carmichael Auditorium (12-0) and has won 15 of the last 16 matches.
North Carolina has a week to prepare for a two-game road trip against Maryland and Virginia. The Heels face the Terrapins Friday night and take on the Cavaliers Saturday. Those matches mark the start of the second half of the ACC regular season. The Heels defeated both Maryland (3-0) and Virginia (3-2) earlier this year.
