DeMange Powers No. 13 Duke To 3-1 Win Over Wake Forest

Carrie DeMange threw down 25 kills to lead 13th-ranked Duke to a 3-1 (30-18, 30-32, 30-25, 30-26) victory over Wake Forest Tuesday evening in Reynolds Gymnasium.

DeMange ended the evening 25-for-63 attacking and recorded a double-double with a team-high 25 digs, marking the ninth consecutive match in which the senior middle blocker has doubled up on digs and kills.

Junior Sue Carls and Jourdan Norman joined DeMange in double digit kills, as Carls hammered 15 and Norman added 11. Norman also recorded a double-double with a season-high 11 blocks against Wake Forest, missing out on just two of the Blue Devils' 13 total stops. Carls led all players with a .364 hitting percentage while Norman turned in a .333 clip.

Four Blue Devils reached or surpassed 20 digs, including DeMange, Ali Hausfeld (22), and Rachael Moss and Jenny Shull who each picked up 20. Hausfeld served up 57 assists as well and added two blocks, including the 300th of her four-year career.

Junior Natalie Mullikin led Wake Forest (7-10, 4-4 ACC) with 15 kills and 50 attacks while Kristen White added 14 kills and a .227 hitting percentage. Setter Kelsey Jones tossed up 49 assists while Megan Thornberry led the defense with 21 digs.

Hokies rally through five games to down Cavaliers

The Virginia Tech volleyball team won an exciting five-game match over archrival Virginia (30-32, 30-26, 33-31, 30-21, 15-12) Tuesday evening. The Hokie offense, tallying a season-high 236 attacks, was paced by sophomore Taylor Parrish's 15 kills. Parrish also collected 14 digs for her 22nd double-double this season. Junior Sarah Muñoz tied a season-high in kills, knocking down 11, while freshman Felicia Willoughby contributed 10.

Defensively, Tech was led by senior Amanda Cloyd's season-high 30 digs, marking the fifth 30-dig match of her career. Sophomore Betsy Horowitz also had a career night defensively, digging 11 Cavalier attacks and posting six blocks.

Sophomore Michelle Lang recorded her fifth double-double this season, dishing out 54 assists with a season-high 15 digs. Sophomore Jill Gergen was the fifth Hokie to reach double-digit digs, with 15.

Senior Jen Albrecht landed eight kills with seven digs and five blocks. Freshman Amy Wengrenovich chipped in nine digs.

For the Cavaliers, Sarah Kirkwood collected a double-double of 18 kills and 30 digs. Tara Hester also collected 21 digs and landed 12 kills, while Kendahl Voelker had 11 kills. Kelly Irvin dished out 44 assists and had 10 digs. Shannon Davis had a game-high 10 blocks.
