![]() Wake Forest Volleyball Sweeps James Madison & Florida Atlantic

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Wake Forest earned a pair of sweeps over James Madison and Florida Atlantic on Saturday to finish 2-1 at the Coors Invitational. Wake defeated JMU 30-28, 30-28, 30-24 in the morning and then took down Florida Atlantic 30-18, 30-27, 30-25 in the nightcap. With the wins, the Demon Deacons improve their record to 2-1 overall. Wake Forest handed James Madison its first loss of the season, moving the Dukes to 5-1. FAU fell to 0-5 with the loss. Redshirt sophomore Jessica Furlong was named to the All-Tournament Team after averaging 3.56 kills per game and 3.44 digs per game over the weekend. On Saturday, Furlong posted her eighth career double-double against James Madison, totaling a game-high 16 kills and 11 digs. Furlong hit .342 with just three errors in 38 attempts against the Dukes. She just missed a second double-double against the Owls with nine kills and nine digs. Senior Natasha Schaefer moved into third all-time on Wake Forest's career digs list with 19 digs combined on Saturday. Schaefer now has 1,043 career digs, putting her just ahead of Valerie Rydberg who recorded 1,037 digs from 2002-04. Redshirt sophomore Natalie Mullikin also had a standout weekend for the Deacs. Mullikin finished with double-digit kill totals in all three matches to give her a team-leading 36 kills. She also led the squad in blocking with 11 total blocks, including seven block solos. On Saturday, Mullikin tallied 11 kills and a pair of block solos against JMU and then came back with 15 kills and five total blocks against Florida Atlantic. Senior Jenna Doane had a career-high 20 digs in Wake's win over Florida Atlantic. Doane also recorded three aces and 12 digs against James Madison.
Junior Jackie Lucas had back-to-back double-digit kill totals with 10 against each the Dukes and the Owls. Lucas hit .600 against FAU with just one error in 15 attempts. She was also tough on defense, recording five total blocks combined on the day. Freshman Dylan Faulkner dished out 43 assists against James Madison and a game-high 42 assists against Florida Atlantic. Junior Michael Faulkner tallied five aces combined on the day. The Demon Deacons will return to action next weekend when they travel to Dayton, Ohio, for the Marriott Flyer Invitational hosted by the University of Dayton. Wake Forest will face Indiana at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday, the Deacs will play Dayton at 11 a.m. and LSU at 5 p.m. All game times at EDT. |
