Volleyball Falls to Delaware 3-1 to Open Season

NEWARK, Del. - The Boston College volleyball team opened their season with a tough 3-1 loss to the University of Delaware Friday night in the Eagles first game of the Delaware Invitational.
BC was led by senior outside hitter Kelsey Johnson who recorded a team-high 19 kills and contributed 10 digs. Freshman libero Cathy Quilico registered 25 digs in her first collegiate contest, while junior setter Brittany Pierpont collected 46 assists to lead the team.
The Eagles started off strong, picking up the victory in the first game, 30-27. BC trailed 8-12, when freshman setter Kristen Baader recorded one of her six kills on the evening. The Baader kill was followed by consecutive service aces from sophomore outside hitter Taylor Williams. Following a Delaware service error and another kill from Baader, the Eagles took a 13-12 lead. BC would not surrender the lead and held on for the victory.
The Fightin' Blue Hens were able to rally after a first game loss to win three consecutive games over BC and take the match.
In the second game, the Eagles cut the lead to 26-24, but were unable to stop Delaware as they held on to a 30-25 victory. Delaware kept the momentum going with wins in games three and four by scores of 30-15 and 31-29. Game four consisted of 16 ties and eight lead changes.
The Eagles are back in action tomorrow, Saturday, Aug. 25 when they take on South Carolina and Binghamton as part of the Delaware Invitational. Game times are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. and 5 p.m. in Newark, Del.
