July 24, 2008
GREENSBORO, N.C. – ACC Women’s Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year Kristi Miller of Georgia Tech heads up the 2008 All-ACC Academic Women’s Tennis Team, as announced today by Commissioner John D. Swofford. Miller completed her college career as the most decorated women’s tennis player in Georgia Tech history, earning multiple athletic and academic honors. Miller was named CoSIDA Academic All-America each of the past three seasons, and was named the organization’s 2008 Academic All-American of the Year in conjunction with ESPN the Magazine. Miller was an ACC and ITA Scholar-Athlete each of her four years at Georgia Tech. A native of Marysville, Mich., Miller earned All-America honors on five occasions (three times in singles, twice in doubles), as well as the 2006 Honda Award for women’s tennis. The Yellow Jackets’ first-ever women’s tennis All-American (as a freshman in 2005), Miller holds school records for singles wins (114) and winning percentage (.803). Duke, Georgia Tech, Miami and Virginia Tech each placed three players on this year’s All-ACC Academic Women’s Tennis Team. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned at least a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained at least a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career. In addition to Miller, this year’s team features a second three-time honoree in Virginia Tech’s Inga Beermann. Clemson’s Estefania Balda Alvarez, Miami’s Romy Farah, Georgia Tech’s Amanda McDowell and Miami’s Laura Vallverdu are other repeat selections from 2007.
