Roland Thornqvist was named head women's tennis coach Friday at the University of Florida. Thornqvist, a two-time All-America as a player at UNC in 1992 and 1993, leaves Carolina after coaching the women's tennis program to a 42-30 record and three straight NCAA Tournament appearances. Last year, UNC was 16-7 and lost in the second round of NCAAs.

UNC Athletic Director Dick Baddour had the following to say about the departure of Thornqvist:
"Roland has made significant contributions to our women's tennis program here at North Carolina over the last three years. We're sorry that he's leaving, but we certainly wish him and his family the best both personally and professionally in Gainesville."
