Georgia Tech's Kristi Miller has been named to the first team of the 2006 University Division Academic All-America At-Large Team, as announced by ESPN The Magazine and the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday afternoon.

Miller, a History, Technology and Society major with a cumulative 4.0 grade-point average, was named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) and Atlantic Coast Conference Scholar Athlete a year ago. The ITA and ACC have not yet announced their scholar athletes for 2006.

The At-Large team is comprised of student-athletes from sports other than football, basketball, baseball, softball, soccer and track and field who have at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA and are sophomores, juniors or seniors.

Miller was the only sophomore to earn first-team honors on the At-Large team.

The All-American becomes the first women's tennis player to earn first-team Academic All-America honors and joins Tamarra Jenkin (second team, 1998 & 1999) as the only Academic All-Americans in Georgia Tech women's tennis history.

The honor comes just a week after Miller, a native of Marysville, Michigan, was named the top collegiate women's tennis athlete, receiving the Honda Award and qualifying for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year Award, which is also presented by Honda.

She earned her second All-America singles honor in 2006 and was also named an All-American in doubles for the first time in her career after advancing to the quarterfinals of both the singles and doubles brackets in the 2006 NCAA Individual Championships. Miller earned all-ACC honors for the second-straight year and was named the ACC Tournament MVP after leading the Jackets to their second-consecutive ACC Championship in 2006.

Miller finished the season ranked No. 2 in the nation in singles play after posting a stellar 41-7 record this year. She also earned the ITA National Player to Watch award for her efforts in 2006.
