![]() Duke's Johnson & Zawacki Selected ITA All-America
June 4, 2004 DURHAM, N.C.- Duke University senior Amanda Johnson and freshman Tory Zawacki earned Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-America accolades on Friday when the ITA released its annual All-America teams. It marked the fourth straight year Johnson has earned ITA All-America honors and the second straight for both singles and doubles. Johnson became only the second Duke women's tennis player to be named All-America in each of her four years (Vanessa Webb). Johnson finished 10th in the ITA singles rankings and fell in a three-set match to 16th-ranked Aibika Kalsarieva of Kentucky, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 to end her run in the NCAA final 16 for the second straight year. As a senior, Johnson posted a 27-14 singles mark and 24-14 doubles record. A Bettendorf, Iowa product, Johnson concluded her career ranking tied for seventh on the Duke all-time wins list with 117 along with Karen Goldsetin and Monica Mraz. Her 77.0 win percentage is tied for fifth on the career list, among four-year letterwinners at Duke. Zawacki, a native of Union, N.J., earned All-America honors in her first season with the Blue Devils in doubles teaming with Johnson. The duo posted a 10-5 record over the 2003-04 season and knocked off two No. 1 seeds at the Riviera All-America and the ITA Indoors.
