Ozolins Earns Academic All-District Honors For Second-Straight Year
May 22, 2001 ATLANTA - Georgia Tech junior tennis player Laura Ozolins was named to the 2001 Verizon Academic All-District III Women's University Spring At-Large Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced today. Ozolins, who also earned the honor last year, posted a 13-6 record in singles matches and won the Atlantic Coast Conference Flight 6 Singles Championship this spring after recording a 6-0 mark against conference competition. She helped lead the Yellow Jackets to the NCAA Tournament for the second year in a row and defeated UCLA's Jennifer Donahue in a first-round match. A biology major, Ozolins has a 3.96 grade point average. She was named to the ACC Honor Roll each of her first two years and became the first Georgia Tech female student-athlete to earn the Bobby Dodd Scholarship Award -- the highest academic honor given to a returning Tech student-athlete -- two consecutive years.
Florida State junior Alida Gallovits (tennis) and Wake Forest
junior Rachael Burns (track) were other ACC athletes named to the Academic
All-District III first team. The ACC placed six members on the second
team.
