FSU's Alida Gallovits Prepares For NCAA Women's Tennis Individual Championships
May 21, 2001 TALLAHASSEE, FL. - Florida State's Alida Gallovits, currently ranked No. 65 in the nation by the ITA, will play No. 45 Maria Phillips of Oklahoma State in the first round of the 2001 NCAA Women's Tennis Individual Championships on Tuesday, May 22nd in Stone Mountain, GA. Gallovits, who is making her second straight appearance in the NCAA singles tournament, has compiled a 24-14 overall record in her junior year, playing all but one dual match at the No. 1 position for the Seminoles. "Alida has worked unbelievably hard all year and I would love nothing more than for her to win a couple of rounds and earn All-American honors," said head coach Lise Gregory. "She really deserves it." Gallovits, a native of Romania, made the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Tennis Team for the third consecutive year this spring and was her team's MVP for the 2000-01 season. "I'm feeling better and better each day", said Gallovits. "I am so excited and I can't wait to go out there and play." 1st and 2nd round play of the 2001 NCAA Women's Tennis Individual Championships is scheduled for Tuesday, May 22nd, and the singles champion will be decided on Saturday, May 26th.
