TALLAHASSEE, FL.-- Nanette Duxin, a senior on the Florida State women's tennis team, was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) and Tennis Magazine's Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award Winner for the South Region on Tuesday, May 15th.

Duxin is one of 7 players who are now eligible for the national award, which is given annually to a player who has exhibited outstanding sportsmanship and leadership as well as scholastic, extracurricular and tennis achievements. The national award will be announced in June.

"Nanette really deserves this award," said head coach Lise Gregory. "She is an incredible competitor who always behaves with class on and off the court. She has been a huge part of our success the past four years and has barely missed out on being on the All-ACC team each year, so it is rewarding for her to finally get some recognition."

Duxin, a native of Uruguay, was an Academic All-American in 2000 and will graduate in December of 2001 with a degree in international business and finance. She has won 66 singles matches and 55 doubles matches in four years at FSU and was second on the team in wins this year with a 14-7 singles record. Duxin finished her intercollegiate tennis career strong, winning five out of her six last singles matches and five out of six doubles matches with team mate Alida Gallovits.
