2010 ACC Women's Tennis Championship Pairings Announced

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The nation’s top-ranked team, the top-ranked singles player and the defending national championship squad will be among a star-studded field as the 2010 Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Championship gets under way Thursday at the Cary (N.C.) Tennis Park. Top-ranked North Carolina (24-3, 11-0) will be seeded first in the 12-team field, but the Tar Heels will be challenged by a number of fellow ranked teams, including sixth-ranked and defending NCAA champion Duke (19-6, 7-4), No. 8 Clemson (21-4, 9-2) and No. 11 Miami (17-4, 10-1). Florida State and Georgia Tech also rank among the nation’s Top 25. Headlining a talented group of individual players will be Georgia Tech’s top-ranked Irina Falconi, who closed out the regular season on a 16-match winning streak and has recorded an overall singles record of 22-1. Among the many other ranked players will be Miami’s No. 6 Laura Vallverdu, the 2009 NCAA singles runner-up. Action gets under way Thursday with first-round matches and concludes with Sunday’s 11 a.m. championship match.
