    Top-seeded Duke downs No. 5 Virginia to advance to the finals in ACC Women's Tennis Action

    RALEIGH, N.C. -- The top-seeded Duke Blue Devils downed the No. 5 seeded Virginia Cavaliers 4-0 to advance to the finals of the 2003 Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Tennis Championship at the Millbrook Exchange Tennis Center in Raleigh, N.C.

    The Blue Devils swept the doubles point to head into the singles matches with a 1-0 lead with wins coming at No. 2 from DeRoo/Johnson and at No. 3 from Granson/Smith. In singles action, Duke recorded victories at No. 1 by Kelly McCain, No. 4 Hillary Adams and No. 5 Katie Blaszak.

    With the loss, Virginia falls to 15-9 while the Blue Devils improve to 25-2 and will face North Carolina in tomorrow's ACC Championship match. The championship match is set to begin at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 20.

    No. 3 North Carolina Advances to Finals with 4-0 victory over No. 2 Clemson in ACC Women's Action

    RALEIGH, N.C. -- The No. 3 seeded North Carolina Tar Heels downed the No. 2 seeded Clemson Tigers 4-0 to advance to the championship match of the 2003 Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Tennis Championship at the Millbrook Exchange Tennis Center in Raleigh, N.C.

    North Carolina won the doubles point with victories from No. 1 Mojzis/Cline as well as at No. 3 from Bunn/Pinchbeck. Turning their attention to singles, the Tar Heels picked up victories at No. 3 from Aniela Mojzis, No. 4 Kendall Cline and No. 5 Lee Bairos to win the match 4-0. The lone victory for Clemson came from No. 2 doubles as Alvarez/Lacelarie defeated Mejia/Bairos, 8-1.

    With the win, North Carolina improves its record to 17-7 while Clemson dops to 18-5 with the loss. The Tar Heels will face the top-seeded Blue Devils for the championship tomorrow, April 20 at 11:00 a.m.
