![]() Duke's Ellah Nze Tabbed ACC Women's Tennis Player of the Week April 15, 2008
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Duke's Ellah Nze has been selected Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for her performance in the final week of the regular season. The freshman picked up her first career league honor and became the third Blue Devil to earn the award this season. Nze posted perfect 2-0 records in both singles and doubles action to lead No. 9 Duke to a pair of road victories over the weekend, as the Blue Devils defeated 56th-ranked Virginia Tech (6-1) and 48th-ranked Virginia (7-0). Ranked 15th nationally, Nze collected wins at the No. 2 singles position including a 7-6, 1-6, 1-0 (4) victory over 120th-ranked Yasmin Hamza from Virginia Tech. She also teamed up with Reka Zsilinszka in doubles play, recording a pair of wins at the No. 3 spot against Virginia's Lara Alexander and Hampton Williams (8-3) and Virginia Tech's Hamza and Jessica Long (8-4). Duke earned a first-round bye and the No. 2 seed in this year's ACC Women's Tennis Championship, held at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla. The Blue Devils will play in the quarterfinals on Friday at 12 p.m. against either No. 7 seed Virginia or 10th-seeded Virginia Tech.
