Duke's Capra named ACC Women's Tennis Player of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Duke freshman Beatrice Capra has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for the third time this season.
Ranked second in the nation in singles, Capra finished the week with a 2-0 singles record, which included a 6-2, 6-0 victory over 15th-ranked Emily Fraser in the No. 1 spot in the lineup, as fifth-ranked Duke picked up a 4-3 road victory at eighth-ranked Virginia, giving head coach Jamie Ashworth the record 352nd win of his ACC career. The Ellicott City, Md., native followed up with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Virginia Tech’s Martha Blakely in No. 1 singles, helping the Blue Devils shut out the Hokies, 7-0. Capra, who has won six-straight matches, is 18-3 overall, 12-1 in dual singles matches and 10-3 against ranked opponents this season.
Capra and sophomore Hanna Mar teamed up for an 8-3 No. 1 doubles victory over Virginia Tech’s Carol Kahoun and Blakely. The match marked the first time Capra and Mar competed as a tandem, while Capra improved her overall doubles record to 23-6 on her freshman campaign.
