March 10, 2009

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Miami sophomore Julia Cohen has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week after winning efforts against top-flight competition.

Cohen completed a 3-0 week with wins over two top-five opponents. The Philadelphia native defeated three ACC opponents, including a win over Ani Mijaciki of Clemson - ranked No. 1 in the most recent Campbell's ITA singles poll - in straight sets.

Prior to that upset, Cohen defeated Georgia Tech's fifth-ranked Irina Falconi in a three-set affair, 5-7, 6-3, 6-1. Cohen has won her last six matches - five vs. ranked opponents, including three against Top 10 players. Cohen is now 18-4 on the season, 12-2 in the spring season.

In doubles play, Cohen teamed with partner Bianca Eichkorn to upset Clemson's 26th-ranked pair of Josipa Bek and Ina Hadziselimovic at the No. 2 position. All of Cohen's top-10 wins this season have come on the road.
