Duke's Capra Named ACC Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Feb. 7, 2012
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Duke freshman Beatrice Capra has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week after her straight-set win over a fellow top-30 opponent keyed the third-ranked Blue Devils to a big non-conference victory.
Capra helped Duke remain unbeaten through five dual matches with a 5-0 victory over 12th-ranked Northwestern on Saturday. Ranked seventh in the nation in singles, Capra easily defeated 26th-ranked Kate Turvy, 6-1, 6-3, to score Duke’s first singles point of the match. The Ellicott City, Md., native is now 5-0 playing in the No. 1 spot in dual singles matches in 2012, winning all of those matches in straight sets. Capra has won nine consecutive singles matches dating back to the ITA National Indoor Championships in November, and is 6-2 overall against ranked opponents during her rookie campaign.
In doubles play, Capra teamed up with sophomore Rachel Kahan to outlast Northwestern’s Nida Hamilton and Belinda Niu, 9-7, in the No. 2 spot to clinch the doubles point for the Blue Devils. Capra and Kahan are 5-0 as a doubles tandem in 2012.
