GREENSBORO, N.C. - After opening the 2008 season with a perfect 7-0 record at the Johan Kriek Classic last week, Miami's Romy Farah has been selected Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week.
Collecting her first league weekly honor, Farah won all four singles matches at the No. 2 position and all three doubles matches at the No. 1 spot. The senior from Cali, Columbia, proved to be a tough contender as she notched straight-set wins over Torrie Brown of No. 32 Wichita State (6-3, 6-2), Breanna Atkinson of Stetson (6-1, 6-1), Megan Zebroski of Dartmouth (6-4, 6-3) and Julie Blackmore of No. 52 Ohio State (6-4, 6-1) in singles action.
In doubles play, Farah paired up with Laura Vallverdu at the top flight to earn convincing victories over Liset Brito and Priscilla Castillo of No. 31 Florida International, Elvira Serrot and Jennifer Carati of UCF and Maria Maggiorini and Maria Braniecka of tournament host Florida Gulf Coast.
The Hurricanes will return to action Friday, as they host Florida Atlantic at 2 p.m. in the first home match of the 2008 season for Miami.
