GAINESVILLE, FL - Two members of the Clemson women's tennis team competed in the first round of the 2003 NCAA Singles Championship on Monday at the Ring Tennis Complex in Gainesville, FL. Sophomore Alix Lacelarie won her first-round match to advance to Tuesday's second round, while sophomore Julie Coin lost a three set decision.

Lacelarie, currently ranked 49th by the ITA, defeated #62 Maureen Diaz of Southern California by a score of 6-4, 6-3 in a match that lasted one hour and 30 minutes. Lacelarie is slated to play Raquel Kops-Jones of California, who won her first round match over Tennessee's Crystal Cleveland by a score of 6-4, 6-3. Tuesday's second-round match is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m.

Coin (#18) fell to 28th-ranked Lindsay Dawaf of Florida in three sets (2-6, 7-5, 6-1). Coin finishes the singles season with a 31-6 overall record (.838). She and teammate Laurence Jayet will take on Florida's Jennifer Magley and Zerene Reyes in a first round doubles match on Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
