DURHAM, N.C. -- The second-ranked, third-seeded Duke women's tennis team got off to a quick start and never looked back as the Blue Devils defeated 28th-ranked Alabama, 4-0, on Saturday in the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center to earn the school's 11th-consecutive trip to the final 16. Due to inclement weather the match was moved inside prior to the start. Duke will next travel to Stone Mountain, Ga. on May 17-20 looking to claim its first national title.

Duke jumped out to a quick start in doubles as the duo of Kathy Sell and Katie Granson made quick work of Weyli Chang/Selia Mathew (8-1) at the third position, while the 47th-ranked tandem of Amanda Johnson and Hillary Adams cruised to an 8-3 victory over Becca Baum/Jenny Ketchum at the second slot to put the Blue Devils ahead 1-0 heading into singles action.

Johnson, a freshman native of Bettendorf, Iowa, didn't let up any after her doubles match as she quickly disposed of Ketchum, 6-0, 6-0, at number three in only 45 minutes to put Duke up 2-0. Shortly after Johnson finished, Sell notched her 143 career victory with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Chang at the fourth slot. Sell is the second winningest singles player in Duke history.

The second-ranked player in the nation, Ansley Cargill, then took care of business with a 6-1, 6-2 match-clinching victory over 44th-ranked Emma Berard. The victory for Cargill, a freshman product of Atlanta, Ga., is her 41st of the season, which is the sixth-best single season total in Duke history.

Again, Duke will travel to Stone Mountain, Ga. this week for the NCAA final 16. Play will begin on May 17 and will go through May 20.
