DURHAM, N.C. -The Duke University women's tennis team, ranked sixth nationally, cruised to a 5-0 victory over Winthrop University on Friday afternoon to advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Blue Devils made quick work of the Lady Eagles, winning five singles matches in about one hour at the Duke Tennis Stadium.

Duke will now host Arkansas (10-12) on Saturday at 4:00 PM for the right to advance to the sweet 16 in Malibu, California. Junior Megan Miller (Palm City, Fla.), ranked No. 12 in the nation, earned her 100th career victory on the afternoon as she defeated Judit Trunkos 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 singles slot. She became only the 13th Duke women's tennis player to reach the 100-win plateau.

Other winners on the day were No. 37 ranked Kathy Sell over Thais Freitas (6-1, 6-2) at the No. 2 position, Erica Biro defeated Juliana Marques (6-2, 6-1) at No. 4, Hillary Adams knocked off Tania Luraschi 6-1, 6-0 (at No. 5), and Prim Siripipat defeated Jacki Deason 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 6 slot. At No. 3 singles, Katie Granson was leading Ana Rojas in the second set, but the match was called after Biro won to give Duke the 5-0 victory.

Duke improves to 22-5 and Winthrop falls to 14-4 on the season.

Duke Head Coach Jamie Ashworth
"I thought we played real well. The hardest thing for us going into the match was we hadn't played a competitive match in almost three weeks. It was good to have a match that we can be loose with some things and get away with some things. Winthrop played well, we are more talented than they are 1-8. In that situation we made some mistakes that we need improve on, but we could afford to make those mistakes. It was a good match for us to start. That is one down and five more to go is the way we are looking at it."
