Duke Earns Chance at 12th-Straight ACC Women's Tennis Title
April 24, 1999 NORCROSS, Ga. - Duke's Kristen Sanderson defeated North Carolina's Caroline Hill at No. 2 singles to clinch the top-seeded Blue Devils' 5-0 win over the fourth-seeded Tar Heels Saturday in the semifinals of the 1999 Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Tennis Tournament at the Racquet Club of the South. Sanderson won 6-3, 7-5 to send the Blue Devils (22-3) into the championship match where they will face second-seeded Wake Forest, 5-4 winners over third-seeded Florida State, at noon Sunday. The loss eliminated North Carolina (15-8) from the tournament. Duke won the match without dropping a set in singles play. The Blue Devils received straight-set victories from Vanessa Webb, Sanderson, Karen Goldstein, Kathy Sell and Erica Biro at No 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 singles respectively. The Blue Devils have won the past 11 ACC women's tennis championships.
