Deacs Rally for 5-4 Win Over FSU in ACC Women's Tennis Semis
April 24, 1999 NORCORSS, Ga. - Wake Forest's No. 2 doubles team of AnneMarie Milton and Caroline Ullring downed the Florida State duo of Marina Raic and Jessica Balbuena to clinch the second-seeded Demon Deacons' 5-4 win over the third-seeded Seminoles in the semifinals of the 1999 Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Tennis Championships at the Racquet Club of the South. The win moves Wake (15-9) into Saturday's finals against top-seeded Duke, who defeated fourth-seeded North Carolina, 5-0, in the other semifinal match. The loss eliminated Florida State (22-5) from the tournament. Milton and Ullring won 9-8 as the Demon Deacons swept the three doubles matches for the victory. Florida State led 4-2 following singles play after winning at the Nos. 4-6 positions. Wake rallied in doubles getting an 8-3 win from Mariel Verban and Janet Bergman at No. 1 and an 8-5 win from Maren Haus and Jackie Houston at No. 3 before Milton and Ullring clinched at No. 2. The Demon Deacons are making their fifth straight appearance in the ACC championship match and are seeking their first conference tournament title.
